I'm a mother of TALKEN, a nine - year old child who loves to draw. Ever since he was diagnosed with high-functioning autism at the age of 3, TALKEN has been working on a picture- diary. The diary now has over 1984 postings! Here, I want to share with you his artistic talent as well as his daily episodes. I believe that arts in any form can be therapeutic to my child, developmentally, emotionally and artistically. He attends a public school with “regular” kids and takes lessons for Japanese dance and piano after school. Sure, he has usual autistic moments, like panic and compulsive behaviors, but that shouldn’t prevent us from giving him opportunities to learn and exceed.
I want to learn more about autism: autistic spectrum, asperger’s syndrome, savant syndrome, TEACCH, Social Story, IEP, Applied Behavior Analysis, etc. With this blog, I wish to connect with people like me who share similar concerns or interests. Please feel free to leave your comments on posts!
The introduction article is translated by Mrs.Kei Matsukata Nguyen. The author is very much grateful for her kind cooperation.
